Garden Railway Remodeling











Two of our members are remodeling their garden railway layouts this year.



Scott Gould  is re-casting his Aberdaron Railway track
bed in concrete. He likes it a lot because it
guarantees a level bed (barring frost heaves) that is weed-free and easily maintained.  Scott attaches the track and ballast to the concrete with silicone, which allows him to sweep or wash the track without needing
to re-ballast.

Carl Churchill is getting ready to run part of the Overlook Garden Railway on wooden posts. He got started by removing the track loops nearest the house and re-grading both the track and pond areas.

L.L. Bean Model Train Village Christmas 2022

 The Model Train Village has been part of the Northern Lights celebration at L.L. Bean for several years. The full program can be seen at the  Northern Lights Web Page .  Trains run 9am-9pm from November 15 through January 1. It is located in the Camping Department and can be seen from both inside and outside the store. Model Train Village and window to downtown Freeport It has three trains that run on timers along with lights, skating rinks, a model of the L.L. Bean Store in the 1930s-1940s, and a model of the Freeport Train Station which is now at Boothbay Railway Village. The Maine3Railers O-Gauge Model Railroad Club built and operates this layout.
